Show up for their games, their recitals, their tournaments and their performances. Show up on their good days, their bad days and every day in between. Show up when they need you and even when they don’t. Show up when it’s easy. Show up when it’s hard. Show up so they can see you. Show up so they can count on you. Show up so they know that, no matter what, you’ll always be by their side cheering them on.

I posted this earlier this week but figured I would repost and talk about it some. It is sometimes difficult to balance all of the practices, games and constantly running that go along with raising children.

We typically spend our weekends at some type of sporting event. Baseball tournaments are typically single elimination, meaning you loose one you go home. Saturdays are usually pool games (like scrimmages but they usually define your place in the bracket). Karter won his game which means they played again at 4:45 an hour from his brothers game. Big brother, Kaleb, had games at 1:15 and 3. Not to mention my daughter also had a volleyball tournament that began at 8am also an hour away from home. It takes a village…My mom met me at the volleyball game so she could stay with my daughter if the tournament lasted longer than expected. My sister in law would also come to split the duties between the boys.

This is the true life of a sports mom! Juggling three kids around who all play intense competitive sports. As I slowly got out of bed before the day began, my husband gave me great advice. He said enjoy these moments and show up with joy, we won’t get them back. It suddenly hit me, this is so true. I will miss these moments when they grow up, I will miss the interesting conversations and yes watching all of their games and activities. I will miss seeing their faces smile and look at us as they see us cheering in the front row. I will miss moments like this.

After his game as we were walking to the car, my youngest son stopped me and said. “Mom thank you, thank you for coming to my game and supporting me. You really made my day. I’m glad that you were there cheering for me.” It made the early mornings, driving across town, constant practices, many tournaments all worth while. Make sure that we are showing up for our kids even when we don’t feel like it. Just show up!!!
